Our recycling club, Leaping Lizards, wanted to inspire our school to increase the amount of materials we recycle. The "No MOre Trash" contest seemed like the perfect venue. The students took one of our single stream recycling cans and came up with the idea of combining the current basketball season with a "Leaping Lizard" paper mache' mascot. The students worked with the Art teacher, Ms. Walsh, to create the "Leaping Lizard" from old newspapers, cardboard rolls and plaster, then they recycled odd craft materials into the body decorations. We collected an old toy basketball net, and secured it to the recycling can. Finally, the students put together the basketball themed display, featuring the "Leaping Lizard" scoring a basket for the home team. Our display is located in the cafeteria near the recycling containers to inspire the students to recycle.
